The politics of the age plays a vital role in how technology or the processing of information is being played out. As the more people are dwelling into the endless and pointless entertainment offered by technology and the more distorted information based on falsehoods people are absorbing without even attempting to search for anything legitimate or true, plays into the hands of politicians and rulers that seek to remain in power and continue to benefit their own agendas. Politics seems to have lost its touch in leading the masses to a more productive and progressive "zeitgeist", but in truth it is very much the main cause for much of our misery and confusion. To fix this problem, we must seek to change the systems that the world, generally, is being governed by. We have managed to create life-changing technologies that may produce inexplicable outcomes to ease human progress, manoeuvrability, adaptability and learning; yet, we have not progressed significantly in changing political consensus that would fit with the fast-paced evolving times and natures of the human race. The creative destruction that was vouched for by Joseph Schumpeter, concerning economic systems, must be also applied in the political world. How people are ruled, the type of systems people are a part of, the benefits gained from such systems, the environments formed by such political relationships, the legislation imposed for an orderly society to emerge and the level or kind of freedom and liberties exhibited, are all essential factors that require our utmost attention. A need for change is imperative, in order for new and more productive ideas to flow through society, for the sake of prosperity and avoidance of any misfortune to ensue, because of a lack of tolerance or unawareness of stalemates that societies may become entrapped in.
Understanding the significance of political legislation, is the main function of a truly prosperous and free society, which possesses a functional people. It is as John Adams, the second president of the United States, once declared, “We are not a nation governed by men. We are a nation governed by laws”. Political legislation and systems, though, is not to be considered an essential ingredient in the recipe of cooking up a well structured nation, but rather it must be compared to the actual kitchen setting. The products, utensils, space, practicality, accessibility and safety must be guaranteed by a kitchen, before commencing with the cooking. Many existing political systems are not well structured to provide political ideas or dishes to the masses for consumption, as their environments are corrupt, chaotic and contaminated. Political reform must be made to address the people's current needs, but more so, the people's future needs - needs that they might not be aware of, which is why they vote or support leaders/rulers that can find the best plausible solution for them. Like supply/demand, some visionary inventors and innovators created products that there was no direct demand or urgent need for but it, nonetheless, revolutionized the way we do things - Apple phones overtaking Nokia, through introducing touchscreen technology. Leaders, whether elected or chosen or presented, must be qualified enough to deliver the services needed for a country to stir clear from any imminent or potential dangers. This may he done, through setting up institutions that supervise one another while collaborating hand-in-hand together.
Next comes providing legislation that actually makes sense and does bring an added benefit to society, parallel to the times we live in. For instance, we live in an Information Age, where knowledge has literally become power, in its own right. So, what is there a need for the right to bear arms in the United States, when there is enough security in a country to defend itself from even an alien invasion from outer space? This brings us towards the kind of reforms that one is ought to see, for a true political society to form and grow. Reforms exhibited in more conservative and compact countries, such as Saudi Arabia, where the deliverance of certain entertainment centres for public use, are not the type of reforms that produces a sophisticated and advanced population for the future. Rather, such political reforms are designed to silence the population or postpone their ruler's tenure in office for a while longer unhinged. Reforms that bring in freedom to exercise one's ability to be whatever they want to be and do whatever they see fit, within the bounds that it does not harm others, but most importantly to deliver the type of reforms that enable real economic, social and creative growth naturally within the population, are the type of political reforms that may secure a country's future. An essential kind of reform that is ought to be considered for implementation, is the prioritization of governmental or state tasks in the art of governing. We may live in a world where elites still run the show from behind the curtains, yet, the right kind of political system that makes political matters transparent to all stakeholders of a country, is imperative for the security of the citizenry. Governments are probably the most important institutions or bodies that need to be fully exposed to their people, similarly to the idea of public companies opening their stock to all. But that does not mean all the people have a direct say in governmental matters or affairs, or then the purpose of a government is pointless. But it must be transparent enough, in order for the people to gain a vivid understanding on the return of their investment within such institutions.
To place the faith in individuals that convince the majority that they have the best interests of the people at heart means that the people have it also in their best interest to keep an eye on those they have "hired" to deliver and secure their people's freedoms and way of life. To make politics a functional domain, once again, which people may begin to trust and believe in, they must be encouraged to be engaged with it. Like a house, one does not buy a house and just leaves it simply as it is. The real work begins after the purchase, in turning the house to become accommodating for the home owner's comforts and pleasures. If the owner leaves it to another, whom thinks they understand what the home owner is looking for, then they would live in a house that is not to their tastes or needs. A country is like a home. If we wish to live in it, we should strive to engage with it, in order to meet our standards and needs, as best as we could. The expert may be needed to model or design the house for us. But it is us that need to direct or demand of the designer on what it is we are looking for. At the end of the day, the designer is there for their money, just as the politician or ruler is there for the sake of power. No matter whom we confront or deal with, their interests shall always be divided by the emotions and behaviour they reveal. Some intentions are for good and some people are out there to truly help. However, we all have our self-interest, even if it is for delivering the good to feel self-fulfilled or happy on producing a good deed. Whatever it may be, the reformation of political systems starts with the separation and prioritization of the overlapping interests exhibited by the various stakeholders within a nation. To do so requires not just one leader or party to do the lifting, but it needs all that wish to live on a certain territory to work hand-in-hand to maintain the durability of a country. Like a ship, the captain may be the one steering, but the sailors are the ones maintaining the ship. The majority may not have the ability to ignite growth or lead the charge towards change for the protection of a nation's future, but they are obliged to contribute in the shaping, as it impacts their wellbeing.
